With millions of Filipinos expected to travel for the Holy Week break, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is taking proactive steps to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow across the country.
LTO Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II has directed all regional directors and agency officials to implement road safety plans focused on both assistance and enforcement. These efforts are in line with DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon’s directive to protect all road users during this high-volume travel season.
Key Measures in Place:
- Increased LTO visibility on major roads, terminals, and transport hubs to assist motorists and enforce regulations.
- Random inspections at bus terminals to ensure public utility vehicles are roadworthy.
- Surprise drug testing for drivers and conductors to ensure they are physically and mentally fit for long travel.
Early deployment of LTO personnel beginning the weekend before April 16 to accommodate early travelers. - Coordination with LGUs to ensure that national and local road safety efforts are aligned.
Reminders for Motorists:
- Check your vehicle’s condition before traveling: engine, brakes, tire pressure, and lights.
- Ensure the driver is well-rested and alert—never travel with a fatigued or unfit driver.
- Secure important documents such as your driver’s license, vehicle registration, and travel essentials.
- Plan your route ahead of time to avoid getting lost or stuck in unfamiliar areas.
- Expect heavy traffic—bring extra patience and avoid road rage.
“Magbaon ng pasensya dahil asahan natin ang traffic. Hindi makakatulong ang galit o road rage sa ating nakaplanong maayos na biyahe,” said Asec Mendoza.
