CA Confirms Dizon as DOTr Chief, Backs Transport Reforms

The Commission on Appointments (CA) has officially confirmed the appointment of Vince Dizon as Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), months after his designation in an ad interim capacity.

The confirmation was granted Tuesday, with members of the CA expressing full support for Dizon’s leadership and his mandate to address long-standing transportation challenges in the country.

In his address before the commission, Secretary Dizon reaffirmed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to improve the daily experience of Filipino commuters by making transport systems safer, more efficient, and more accessible.

“I was asked by the President to make the lives of our commuters more comfortable and safe, and to fast-track ongoing projects that will uplift their lives on a daily basis,” Dizon said.

He emphasized that beyond poor infrastructure and overcrowded transport modes, the most critical issue is the time lost by commuters each day due to inadequate systems.

Background

Vince Dizon was appointed as ad interim DOTr Secretary in 2024. Prior to this role, he served as Presidential Adviser for Flagship Programs and Projects and was heavily involved in infrastructure development under the Duterte administration’s “Build, Build, Build” program.

His confirmation by the CA formalizes his role as head of the DOTr and grants him full authority to implement key transport projects under the Marcos administration’s “Bagong Pilipinas” initiative.

The DOTr is currently overseeing several major infrastructure projects, including the Metro Manila Subway, North-South Commuter Railway, and the rehabilitation and expansion of various airports and seaports.

What’s Next

Following his confirmation, Secretary Dizon is expected to accelerate transport infrastructure programs and work closely with agencies and local governments to ease the burden on daily commuters and reduce inefficiencies in the country’s public transport network.
