The Department of Transportation (DOTr), in partnership with SM Prime Holdings Inc., formally opened the newly upgraded SM North EDSA Busway Station and Concourse on March 13, 2025. Regular commuters and transport advocacy groups led the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first time.
The upgraded busway station features wider walkways, designated queuing areas, and improved access points designed to enhance commuter convenience and reduce congestion. The concourse connects directly to SM North EDSA, allowing easier transfers between transport modes.
Key Features and Transport Benefits
The SM North EDSA Busway Station is part of the EDSA Busway system, which provides a dedicated lane for public buses to reduce travel times. According to DOTr, the new station improvements are expected to facilitate faster boarding and help accommodate the increasing number of passengers using the system.
During the event, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized the role of efficient transport infrastructure in improving mobility.
“Ang pinakaimportanteng binigay sa atin ng busway, MRT, mga tren na parating at iba pang transport facilities, ay oras,” Dizon said.
Public Reception and Future Developments
Passengers who regularly use the EDSA Busway have noted improvements in queuing and access at the newly upgraded station. Transport advocacy groups present at the inauguration welcomed the changes and emphasized the need for continued investments in public transport infrastructure.
The DOTr has stated that additional improvements in public transportation, including busway enhancements and rail system expansions, are part of ongoing efforts to modernize Metro Manila’s transport network.
The newly inaugurated concourse and station are now fully operational, serving commuters traveling along the EDSA corridor.
