In a determined effort to enhance road safety, the Land Transportation Office (LTO), under the guidance of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime J. Bautista, conducted enforcement operations in various parts of the National Capital Region from January 7 to 8. The operations resulted in the apprehension of 85 motorists, with 22 drivers penalized for using vehicles with worn-out tires.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, emphasized the importance of targeting trucks and passenger utility vehicles (PUVs) in these operations, citing their involvement in numerous road accidents.
Who Was Apprehended?
- 22 Drivers of trucks and PUVs were penalized for operating vehicles with unsafe, worn-out tires.
- 12 Motorists were caught driving unregistered vehicles.
- 51 Others faced penalties for reckless driving, failure to wear helmets, and driving without valid licenses.
Director Eduardo De Guzman of the LTO-Law Enforcement Service highlighted that the majority of violators apprehended during the operation were truck drivers, underscoring the need for stricter compliance among this group.
Why These Operations Matter
- Preventing Accidents: Ensures safer roads by addressing common safety hazards like worn-out tires.
- Promoting Discipline: Visible enforcement compels motorists to follow traffic laws.
- Encouraging Compliance: Reminds all motorists of their responsibility to maintain vehicles and follow regulations.
“For several times, we have been urging motorists to be disciplined and to do what is right. We express gratitude to the majority of our motorists who are law-abiding citizens. And for the few who are hard-headed, our enforcers will be there to implement road safety rules and regulations,”

Sustained Enforcement for Road Safety
The LTO’s commitment to road safety involves enforcing rules and ensuring the visibility of personnel on the ground. According to Mendoza, this visibility deters violations and promotes better-driving behavior among motorists.
As operations continue, the LTO calls on all drivers to adhere to road safety laws, emphasizing that compliance saves lives, reduces accidents, and fosters a culture of discipline.
